    Jan 24, 2011 · I fed it directly with a Z-Match tuner (Emtech ZM-2) and it matched and worked great on all bands except for 40m ! On 40m I ended up feeding just the longer side against a 33 ft radial on the ground with the ZM-2 in unbalanced-mode and that worked fine for that band. The 705 does not have an ATU, which is a big negative for a lot of people. I bought a manual ATU, the Emtech ZM-2. It’s ridiculously easy and quick to use. I chose this over the Elecraft T1 for cost and because I’ve read that the ZM-2 can find a match to a wider range of antennas (and objects being used like an antenna) than the T1.

I used so far BLT down to 40m and ZM-2 down to 80m. In this picture, the 40 Meter loading coil is in place. To use the 10-40 meter configuration, simply remove the booster cable and revert to a single turn loop. Antenna one: 80 meter wire fed with 600 ohm open wire line to a KW match box balanced tuner and a home brew line coupled balanced tuner.

Conclusion The Z-Match Tuner is an extremely easy antenna tuner to adjust. In the past, the biggest limitation to a compact 100-watt version was the necessity of using large air-wound inductors, and the ability to find reasonably priced multi-section variable capacitors. Emtech ZM-2 Shortwave radio listeners, especially, should take note of the Emtech ZM-2 balanced line tuner! Unlike the ATUs above, the ZM-2 is manual-meaning, you manually adjust the tuner's L/C controls to achieve a match with your antenna. I've owned the ZM-2 for many years and have used it with a number of QRP transceivers.

Nov 03, 2019 · Not a radio, but the Emtech ZM-2 Z-match tuner could match your rig to a dry noodle if you need it to. It's not the smallest tuner out there, but it's pretty small and light. It also goes together pretty easily in my opinion.
